Obituary for Jon Gilbert Jon David Gilbert, 71, of 401 Douglas Street, Clifton Forge, died Saturday, October 13, 2018 at his residence. He was born August 31, 1947 in Patrick County, Virginia, a son of the late Harry D. and Mary Virginia Simpson Gilbert. He was a veteran of the United States Army, a retired Electrician and Foreman for H&M Electric Company, and a member of the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge BPOE #1065.
Jon was also an avid Virginia Tech fan and his family requests that you dress in your Virginia Tech Clothing and colors for the service. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Judy Leffue, and two brothers, Jack Gilbert and Jeff Gilbert. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Anne R. Gilbert of Clifton Forge; three daughters, Margaret Anne “Meg” Hicks and husband Andy of Covington, and Wendy Gilbert Poague and husband Ronnie of Covington, and Molly Beth Gilbert and companion Chris Conner of Clifton Forge; six grandchildren, Ariel Chappel and husband Gary, Brooke Carson, Taylor Poague, Colton Poague, Riley Persinger, and Josie Anne Conner; a great grandchild, Autumn; a sister, Jane Linkenhoker and husband Sardy of Clifton Forge; a brother, Jim Gilbert and wife Jean of Stafford; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; special friends, Reggie and Becky Deane, and Brandy Vaughan; Diane Kouns and Ashley Boyd of Mountain Regional Hospice; his beloved H&M Electric Family; and his K-9 children, Jake and Lilly.
In keeping with his wishes, his body has been cremated. A memorial service will be held on Thursday evening at 7:00 PM in the chapel of Nicely Funeral Home, Clifton Forge with Reverend Donna Sams officiating. Casual attire requested.
Elk’s memorial service will be conducted by the Clifton Forge Elks Lodge BPOE # 1065. His family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 PM until the time of service at Nicely Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Mountain Regional Hospice Volunteers, PO Box 637, Clifton Forge, VA 24422.
