Joni Jacobs Apo July 24, 1958 – March 19, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| View Guestbook Entries| Send Sympathy Card Joni Jacobs Apo, 60, of Toledo, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at UnityPoint Health-Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A Memorial Service will be held the week of April 1, specific details to be announced later. Joni was born on July 24, 1958, in Smith Center, KS, the daughter of Norman and Catherine (Johnson) Jacobs.

Joni lived much of her childhood in Mankato, KS, but moved to Tama-Toledo before entering 8th grade. After high school, she moved to Omaha,NE, attended Patricia Stevens Business College following in her sister’s footsteps and worked at Mutual of Omaha for nine years. She moved to Sandstone, MN to be closer to her parents when her oldest son, Pierce, was quite young and she worked in the federal prison there.

When her middle son, Ethan, was in elementary school, they moved to Tipton, IN until all three kids graduated from high school. In addition to her career, she was a caring and devoted mother to her three children. A year and a half ago she moved back to Toledo when she became reacquainted with Larry from their high school days.

Survivors include her three children, Pierce Jacobs of Kent, WA, Ethan (Mallory) Jacobs of Tipton, IN, and Keoni Apo of Tama; one grandson, Desmond Jacobs of Kent, WA; her significant other, Larry Gray of Toledo; one sister, Dee (Robert) Jacobs TeKrony of Omaha, NE; one brother, Darin Jacobs of Pierz, MN; one nephew, Sean TeKrony of Omaha; and one niece, Katie TeKrony of Omaha. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norman and Katherine Jacobs. The family has set up a Go Fund Me page for memorials, contributions may be sent to www.
