Obituary for Jose Alvaro Garcia Jose Alvaro Garcia (Gordo) 70, passed away on July 22, 2018 at his home in Houston, Texas. He was the husband of Consuelo Vasquez Garcia. They shared 45 years of marriage.
Born in San Diego Texas, on June 17, 1948. He is preceded in death by his parents Jose Taguma Garcia and Luisa Perez Gaitan Garcia and two brothers Gilbert and Danny. He enlisted in the US Army; went to USA Engineering School in Fort Belvoir, VA, where he obtained his General Education Development Diploma.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and served two years. He was awarded The National Defensive Service Medal, Two Overseas Bars, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (W/4 Campaign Stars), Bronze Star Medal, and Marksman Badge (Rifle M-14). He loved to joke, fish, working with his hands, and most of all spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, children, and family and friends.
He was a selfless father; he left a legacy of skills and knowledge to his daughters, son, and grandchildren. Jose is survived by his wife Consuelo V. Garcia, three children Linda Garcia Rodriguez, Maria Luisa Marin (Alex), Mark Anthony Garcia (Sheena). Five brothers, Johnny, Henry, Richard (Mary Alice), Arnold (Mary Jane), and David (Eloise).
Five sisters, Josie, Zuelma, Melida (John), Tina (Joe), and Shirley (Simon). Thirteen grandchildren, Esmerelda (Edgar), Miranda (Auggie), Savannah (Hector), D.J., Hannah (Juan), Odalys, Baylee, Jaden, Joseph, Benjamin, Nicholas, Vanessa, and Isaiah. Seven great-grandchildren, E’Layna, Ayvehn, Edgar, Elias, Luna and two more expected in December and January, and an abundance of nieces and nephews.
Jose will be cremated at Morales Funeral Home in Houston, Texas and transfer to Corpus Christi, Texas. The Military Funeral Honors services will be held on August 3, 2018, 10:00 a.m. at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery; 9974 Interstate Hwy 37, Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. Interment following right after.
