Basaldua, 90, entered the Lord’s heavenly kingdom on Thursday, January 31, 2019 at Valley Baptist Medical Center. Jose was born on February 22, 1928 in Mercedes, Texas to Santiago & Julia Limon Basaldua. He was a longlife resident of Harlingen & was employed by Rainbo Baking Company for 43 years until his retirement.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and taking trips to visit South Padre Island. Jose will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Olivia Basaldua; son, Joe “Pipo” Basaldua Jr, and sister, Herlinda Del Valle.

Jose is survived by his children, Guadalupe B. Reyna (Rene), Olga Basaldua, David (Alma) Basaldua, and Martin & Jimmy Basaldua; numerous grandchildren & great grandchildren; sister, Eva Gonzalez; and brothers, Gustavo & Geronimo Basaldua. Visitation will be Friday, February 1, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the prayer of the Holy Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Funeral Chapel. A funeral mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anthony Catholic.

Interment will follow to Las Flores Cemetery in San Benito, Texas. Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Joe Reyna, Rene Reyna Jr., George Basaldua, David Basaldua Jr., Tony Castro Jr., & Jose Baldemar Gonzalez III. Honorary pallbearers will be Ruben Basaldua, Aaron Basaldua, Joe Jacob Gonzalez, & Omar Corona.
