Joseph “Frank” Franklin Ballinger, age 71 of Chesterton, passed away on October 29, 2018. He was born on July 25, 1947 in Hayti, MO to Joseph and Elizabeth Ballinger, both of whom preceded him in death. On December 22, 1976 in Ohio, he married Ann Poutasse Ballinger, who survives in Chesterton.

He is also survived by his children: Joseph Franklin Ballinger of Fort Collins, CO, David Harley (Emily) Ballinger of Westville, IN, Patrick Thomas Ballinger of Chesterton, IN and Mary Elizabeth (Peter Dalton) Ballinger of Martin, TN; his grandchildren: Lillian, Linus, Stella, and Olivia; and by his brother: Craig Ballinger of Oracle, AZ. He is also preceded in death by his brother, Danny Ballinger and his sister, Sherlyn Young. Frank proudly served in the United States Army from 1968 until 1970.

He worked at the steel mill for many years and was also a member of the American Legion Post 170. Over the years, he owned many antique cars and motorcycles, and Pop’s Garage was his place for working on cars, welcoming friends, and sharing beers. He loved his children dearly and was very proud of each and every one of them.

A Memorial Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at Augsburg Evangelical Lutheran Church, 100 N Mineral Springs Rd, Porter, IN 46304, from 9 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. The Memorial Service will be held immediately following at the church at 11:30 a.m. Memorial donations may be given to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
