Joseph J. Kargul 87, died Sunday September 16, 2018 at the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. He was born November 16, 1930 in Northampton the son of Frank and Catherine Pisarczyk Kargul. He attended the former Sacred Heart of Jesus School in Easthampton and a graduate of Smith Vocation School of Northampton.

He was a Marine Veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. Joseph was a test volunteer for the first atomic bomb above ground detonation. He was employed by the former Lesnow Mfg.

then with Stanley Home Products both of Easthampton, retiring in 1990 from Amherst College. He was a member of American Legion Post 224 and a member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish both of Easthampton. He enjoyed outdoors and fishing in this area.

Joseph is survived by one sister Julia Godek of Chicopee and two nephews and a niece. He was predeceased by two brothers Frank and John. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday September 20, 2018 at 10 am in Our Lady of the Valley Church, Adams Street, followed by burial with Military Honors in St. Stanislaus Cemetery all of Easthampton.
