Joseph Marek, 89, of Penn Hills, formerly of Moon Twp. passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 20, 2019 in Baptist Homes, Mt. Lebanon, with his loving family by his side.

He was born December 19, 1929 in Leetsdale, to the late John and Catherine Marek. He was a retired millwright for Standard Steel Specialty Company and a member of Masonic Chartiers Valley Lodge #720 F & AM & Infinity Lodge #546 F & AM, Penn Hills. He was a 1949 graduate of Leetsdale High School and a member of Steel City Radio Club, KA3JQA and with a CB handle of “Grizzly Bear”.

Joseph proudly served his country with the US Army during the Korean War. Preceding him in death in addition to his parents were his wife, Olive Dwire Marek, granddaughter, Sonya Marek and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by five children, Joseph (Kelley) Marek of New Holland, Stephen (Kim) Marek of Chester, WV, Dorothy Marek of Penn Hills, George (Sandy) Marek of Mt.

Lebanon and Vera Marek (Jim) of Moon Twp. , four grandchildren, Emily, Shane, Jonathan, and Samantha Marek. A memorial visitation will be held on Thursday from 6 PM until time of memorial service at 7:30 PM in the John Syka Funeral Home, 833 Kennedy Drive, Ambridge.

Private burial will be held in the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies, Washington County with full military honors provided by the Brentwood VFW Post 1810 Military Funeral Honor Guard and the US Army. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System’s Adult Day Healthcare, 1010 Delafield Road, Pittsburgh, PA 15215.
