Obituary of Joseph McEvoy Jr. Joseph Edwin McEvoy, Jr., of Niskayuna left this world after a sudden passing and brief illness. He passed peacefully, with his family present on Thursday, January 24, 2019. He was 77.
Born on August 16, 1941, son of Joseph and Katherine (Kelly) McEvoy, Sr He is the husband of D. Antoinette (Bergman) McEvoy. Joe served as a Diesel Mechanic stationed in Assault Craft Unit Two for the United States Navy.
He was Honorably Discharged on Feburary 13th 1969. During his time in the Navy, Joe began his long standing desire to travel and explore the World. Joe always had a passion for History and Archaeology which lead him to a career with NYS Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
For over 40 years, Joe worked in Archaeology and quite literally moved mountains, uncovering some of New York State’s earilest history; including the excavation of Fort Orange, countless early American Indian sites, the restoration of Olana, excavations at Crown Point. Joe was instrumental in the meticulous preparation and preservation for permanent exhibits and collections all across NYS. One of Joe’s greatest finds was his wife Toni.
They met digging a site together at Schuyler Flatts in Menands. They were married on July 1st 1978. After retiring, Joe and Toni delighted in traveling the world and touring Archeological sites.
Joe was a devoted man, who put his family and faith first. He cherished the time he spent with his two grandsons. His sense of humor was contagious, his love for History and Archeaolgy was enriching, his love of hockey was second to none.
Joe also enjoyed working on getting his 1958 Corvette back on the road with the help of his friends. Joe is survived by his wife Toni, his daughter Cathleen, his son-in-law Stephen, his two beautiful grandchildren Abram and Madon (who made his smile grow wider each day), his son Tim and partner Meredith, his brothers, Michael (Karen McEvoy), Mark (Garian McEvoy) and Kevin (Jill McEvoy), as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph joins his mother Katherine, father Joseph, and brother Jerry in everlasting peace.
Relatives and friends may call from 5-7:00pm on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at the Jones Funeral Home, Inc., 1503 Union Street (At McClellan St.) Schenectady, NY 12309. Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:00am on Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union Street, Schenectady. Burial with military honors will be in the family plot in St. Agnes Cemetery.
