Obituary for Joseph P. Kearney Joseph P. Kearney of Tamarack Trail, Saratoga Springs passed away peacefully at home with his wife Joan by his side on Wednesday November 7, 2018. He was 75 years old. Born on February 24, 1943 in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph T. Kearney and Catherine Bergin Kearney.
Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He married his wife Joan, on January 28, 1968, they were married for over 50 years. Mr. Kearney worked for the New York State Department of Labor from 1966 to 1995 and finished out his career at the NYS Unemployment Appeals Board from 1995 until his retirement in 2005.
Joseph was a member of the North American Martyrs Chapel in Hudson Falls, NY and of St. Joseph’s Church in Troy, NY. He loved languages and taught Latin to homeschool children and anyone that wanted to learn. He also loved books, especially used books.
Joseph had turned his love of books into a business in which he bought used books and sold them online. His greatest love and enjoyment came from his family and grandchildren. He would vacation every summer with the entire family at Blue Mountain Lake, in the Adirondacks.
A family trip in the 1980’s that has become a tradition for over 30 years. He is predeceased by his sister, Mary Kearney, grandsons Erik and Michael Spugnardi, sister in-law Ellen Kearney and nephew Douglas Kearney. Survivors include his wife Joan, two sons, Christopher T. Kearney and his wife Kathleen, Andrew S. Kearney and his wife Janet, one daughter, Hilary M. Spugnardi and her husband Jason, a brother John Kearney, niece Jennifer Kearney, grandchildren, Caroline, Elizabeth, Olivia, Dylan, Owen, Anna, Kayla and Jacob and a cousin Carolyn Goodwin with her children William Hasselbrack, Susan Hasselbrack and Kristin Hasselbrack.
Family and friends may call from 6-9 pm on Tuesday November 13, 2018 at the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave. Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday November 14, 2018 from 11 am-12 pm at St. Mary’s Church in Ballston Spa, NY.
Burial will follow at Greenridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, NY Memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Saint Benedict Center, The Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary 282 Still River Rd PO Box 1000, Still River, MA 01487.
