Obituary for Joseph P. Scott Joseph P. Scott, a long-time resident of Erial, NJ passed away on April 27, 2018 at the age of 91. He was the beloved husband of the late Naomi M. Scott (nee Adams) who predeceased him in 2009 after 62 years of marriage. Loving father of Ruth Ann Ganski (the late Greg), Gary J. Scott (Liz), and Cindy Ivins (Bob).

Proud grandfather of Joey, Stephanie, Gary Jr., Michelle, Cara, and Robbie. Dear great-grandfather of Sophie. Mr. Scott was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.

He proudly fought, and survived the Battle of Iwo Jima. He received numerous awards, medals, and citations for his faithful service, and has been a long-time member of the Erial VFW Post # 5794, Pine Hill American Legion Post # 286, and of the Erial Community Church. He is a past member of the Erial Fire Co. In his early career, Mr. Scott worked for Lucas Paintworks in Gibbsboro, NJ, later joining Campbell Soup Co. in Camden.

In his senior years, he served Gloucester Township Public Schools as a bus driver. He will long be remembered for his portrayal of Santa Claus in the Blackwood Christmas Parade, which he did for decades, as well as in several local FOP lodge Christmas parties. He also enjoyed the role of Uncle Sam, which he played for many years in parades in Pine Hill, and in Tabernacle.

He was known by the American Red Cross to be a repeat blood donor, giving over 13 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime. Viewing for family and friends will be Saturday, May 5, 2018, 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM at Erial Community Church, 1725 New Brooklyn-Erial Rd. , Erial, NJ 08081, where a service will begin at 11:30 AM.

Interment with military honors will follow at Erial Cemetery. His family would kindly request contributions in his memory to the Church. Condolences may be shared at www.
