Grayson, MD (03-02-1932 – 03-16-2019) Joe, better known as “DOC” was born in East Orange, NJ. He completed his undergraduate work at Fisk University (where he met his wife Jeanne) and completed medical school at Meharry University. Upon completion of his medical training he entered the Air Force, stationed at Selfridge Air Force Base in Michigan.

Upon completion of his service he moved to Pontiac, MI to open his pediatric practice. He practiced pediatric medicine in Pontiac for 14 years before accepting an offer to work at General Motors. He worked at General Motors from 1972 until he retired in 2006, however he never left his profession.

He began as a plant physician and rose to the executive ranks before he retired. He always told his family and friends he was just “working on bigger babies”. When he moved his family to Bloomfield Hills, MI, he never forget the community he left behind.

He was active in helping others obtain a better education and opened his home to all his children’s friends; often hosting parties, providing a safe environment, and being a living example of what it means to be a good family man. He was not only dedicated to his immediate family, he also “adopted” several young people who viewed him as a surrogate father. Having fun was always his mission and he did this by vacationing with family and friends as well as co-hosting an annual Super Bowl party for 30 years.

He was an avid sports fan, following the Pistons, Lions and any event that featured Tiger Woods. His is survived by his wife Jeanne, married of 60 years, his son Joseph R. Grayson III who passed away in December of 2015 and his daughter Leeta Grayson who currently resides in Conyers, GA. Even though he was not a religious man, he was a living illustration of what God mandates from each one of us: love one another, give generously, and to think of others as more highly than yourself.

His life has served as a model and inspiration to all who knew him. The family will receive friends for repass from 3-5 pm on March 23, 2019 at Sparks-Griffin, Pontiac. A Memorial Service will be held on March 23, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Sparks-Griffin, Pontiac.

In lieu of flowers, donation cards to Feeding America and Habitat for Humanity will be provided at the service.
