OBITUARY Joseph Szucs Jr. August 14, 1930 – December 21, 2018 Joseph “Joe” Szucs, Jr. On Friday, December 21, 2018, Joseph “Joe” Szucs, Jr. passed away peacefully surrounded by his 4 children at the age of 88. Joe was born on August 14, 1930 in Holden, WV to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Ferencz) Szucs, Sr. On August 17, 1950, he married his one true love, the late Mrs. Janice D. (Bias) Szucs. Together they raised 4 children; Terry, Gary, Scott and Tracy.
Joe built his 1st family home in Blair, WV and worked as a coal miner for 12 years in the mines in Ethel, WV. He then moved his family to Hopatcong, NJ and there he worked as a manager over the bakery department at Nabisco Brands for over 20+ years in Fairlawn, NJ. In 1985 he retired and settled in Charlotte, NC.
Joe loved his family and was so proud of them and their accomplishments; bragging on them every chance he got. Joe had a special place in his heart for his dog “Bear” or as his daughter called him “Care Bear”. You would always find Joe and Bear outside riding around on his golf cart or just parked out in the yard watching, and giving a wave and a smile to all that had passed by.
Joe never met a stranger, and welcomed everyone with open arms. He enjoyed when his next door neighbor would stop in several times a day to check on him and looked forward to the days when his caregiver would be at the house. Company was always welcomed at Joe’s home, and you could bet that you would always get ….
“Go get yourself something to eat or drink! ” and to watch a good western with him! Joe was preceded in death by his wife Janice, his father Joseph Sr., his mother Elizabeth and 2 sisters, Mary Tolvay and Betty Pataky.
He is survived by his 4 children; Terry Szucs and wife Paula of Lock Haven, PA; Gary Szucs and wife Linda of Hopatcong, NJ; Scott Szucs and wife Roberta of Pompton Plains, NJ and daughter Tracy Szucs of Denver, NC. 1 sister Julia Chambers of Charlotte, NC and 2 brothers John Szucs of Stollings, WV and Alex Szucs and wife Carol of The Villages, FL. 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; Jason Szucs and wife Kristen and great-grandchild JJ of Sparta, NJ; Jessica Szucs Barlow and husband Mike and great-grandchildren Kendall and Kade of Sparta, NJ; Leigh Szucs of Atlanta, GA; Vanessa Szucs of State College, PA; Brittney Szucs of Pompton Plains, NJ; Michael Szucs of Pompton Plains, NJ; Janna Grigg of Denver, NC and Colton Grigg of Denver, NC.
And many nieces and nephews. Visitation and service will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 11:00 AM at McEwen Funeral Service at Sharon Memorial Park, 5716 Monroe Rd. , Charlotte, NC 28212.
