Obituary for Josephine Elizabeth Aderhold FORT WORTH – Josephine Elizabeth (Jody) Aderhold, whose thousands of acts of kindness, generosity and community service performed throughout her 90 years made the world a better place, passed away on July 12, 2018, in Fort Worth, Texas. She will be missed by many, but especially by her husband of 65 years, Tom Aderhold; children, Cullen Aderhold (Carolee), Robin Roberts (Clay) and Tom Aderhold (Lea Ann); sister, Jacquelyn Baylis; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Born in Donna, Texas in 1928 to J.C. and Mignon Powell, she grew up and spent most of her life in Edinburg, Texas.
At Edinburg High School, she was the drum major and third in her class. At the University of Texas, she was a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority and Alpha Epsilon Pi (honorary pre-med society), among other organizations, and graduated with a degree in Zoology at the age of 19. While working on her master’s degree at UT, she started dating Tom.
They married in 1953, beginning a wonderful family and an extraordinary life of service for both of them. Jody served many charitable, religious and educational organizations throughout her life, including serving as President of the Edinburg General Hospital Auxiliary (for whom she was also Scholarship Chair for more than 20 years, and who recognized her for over 7,000 hours of volunteer service); President of the Rio Grande Council of Hospital Auxiliaries; President of Edinburg Junior Service League; President of the Edinburg Chapter of the American Field Service; President of the Friends of Edinburg Public Library (about which she said “teaching children to love to read is one of the greatest gifts we can give them”); Vice-Chair of Hidalgo County Child Welfare Board; Chapter President (twice) and 50-year member of PEO Sisterhood; Founder and First President of Senior League; and as a fund-raiser for many other organizations. For these and many other contributions to the community, she was recognized as Edinburg’s “Woman of the Year” in 1980.
But her greatest devotion was to her church. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Edinburg, where she was also an Elder, President of the Women of the Church, Sunday-school teacher, and Vacation Bible School Director, among many other positions. The family wishes to acknowledge the wonderful care Jody received during the last months of her life by the staff of the memory care unit at Trinity Terrace.
