Joy Bodily Gossett August 24, 1933 ~ July 20, 2018 Joy Bodily Gossett, 84, passed away surrounded by family on July 20, 2018 after a short battle with cancer. Joy was born August 24, 1933 in Lewiston, Utah to Parley Hyde and Emma Rachel Kemp Bodily, the youngest of nine children. She attended school in Lewiston and graduated from North Cache High School.

After graduation, she moved to Salt Lake City to begin her long career as a secretary, working for several different companies including the Utah Governor’s Office. She began a life full of service by fulfilling a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brazil between 1958 and 1960. Following her mission, she continued her courtship with Vernice Lee “John” Gossett and they were later sealed on February 21, 1064 in the Logan LDS temple.

Johnny’s military career took them to Mountain Home AFB, ID and Langley AFB, VA before settling in Clinton, Utah. They lived in Clinton for 38 years where they raised three sons. They were active in their community and church.

Due to Johnny’s illness, they moved to Roy in 2006, where the community embraced them. After Johnny’s passing in 2010, Joy served three service missions to the Bishop’s Storehouse. She was a foster grandparent at Freedom Elementary in Roy where she truly loved the children and staff and they loved her.

In 2017, she moved in with Ed and Kari in Willard, where she was lovingly cared for until her passing. Having been raised on a family farm, Joy learned the value of hard work. During her life, she was an accomplished pianist and organist and began playing for church services at the age of 13.

She served in the PTA and as a substitute teacher for many years. Many people were the recipients of her excellent baking, candy-making, and sewing. Her faith was very important to her, and she served in several different capacities within her church.

Joy gathered her family together often: holidays and “grandkid dinners” were favorites of the family. Joy is survived by three sons, Bill (Andrea), Ed (Kari), and Steve (Emily); 12 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, and a growing family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings, Elvin, Mervin, Cecil, Sabina, Elsa, Morton, Clarice, Carl; daughter-in-law, Andrea, five sisters-in-law, and four brothers-in-law.

Joy wished to express a sincere appreciation for the loving care provided her by Signature Hospice. Joy was also grateful for the extra care given by her daughter-in-law Kari and her granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Lindquist’s Roy Mortuary, 3333 West 5600 South.

The family will meet with friends on Friday, July 27th from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the mortuary. Interment Roy City Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity and an act of service.
