Joyce (Rike) Engle, 71 of Springfield, OH, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Springfield Regional Medical Center after many years of illness. She was born on May 24, 1947 in Dayton, Ohio. She graduated from Wilbur Wright High School and attended Bowling Green State University.

In 1967, she married David Engle, and together they had two children, Leann Castillo and Deidra Engle. Joyce was known to spoil her family especially her grandsons. Joyce loved spending time with her family and friends from watching tennis and golf or going on vacations especially to Hilton Head Island and New York City.

Joyce retired from Mental Health Services. She worked with the Ohio Valley Tennis Association as the Adult League Tennis Coordinator for 16 years. She was also a longtime volunteer with the Midwest Section of the United States Tennis Association.

She dedicated many years to the sport of tennis and the family always knew that the months of July and August were dedicated to organizing the league tennis championships. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Joyce is survived by husband David, daughters Leann (Mickey) Castillo and Deidra Engle, grandsons Lucas, Nathan and Eli Castillo, her mother Betty Mae Rike, and her sister Donna (David) Hatton, brothers-in-law Dana (Cheryl) Engle, Larry (Margie) Engle, sisters-in-law Marcia (Dale) Palof, Kathy (Michael) Cain and Caryl Engle, aunts Dot Turvene and Winnie Wagner, dear cousins Linda Burnham, Susie (Tony) Barga, Pam Ice, Sally (Frank) Skunza and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joyce was proceeded in by her father William (Bill) Rike, paternal grandparents Leo and Cleo Augusten, maternal Howard and Elsie Ricker, her in-laws James and Wanda Engle and her niece Angie Knauer. The family wishes to thank the many doctors, nurses and health care professionals at the Springfield Regional Cancer Center especially Dr. Singh and staff, Springfield Regional Medical Center, The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center and Oakwood Transitions Rehabilitation Center. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Springfield Foundation, Snyder Park Tennis Court Project, 333 N. Limestone Street, #201, Springfield, Ohio 45503.

A memorial gathering of family and friends will be Wednesday from 5-8PM in the RICHARDS, RAFF & DUNBAR MEMORIAL HOME. A memorial service to honor Joyce will be Thursday at 1:00Pm in the Memorial Home with Pastor Michael Cain officiating. Private burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
