Joyce’s Obituary Joyce Faye Hicks of Leland, NC is at peace after leaving this earthly world on March 10, 2019. Joyce was born February 14, 1939, daughter of Sarah and Joseph R. Bell, both of Wilmington, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mack Luther Hicks, Sr., whom she married March 25, 1957 and her siblings.

She is survived by her daughter Judy and husband R.C. Woody, Jr., granddaughter, Sarah; daughter Karen and husband James Holliday; son Mack and granddaughters Denise, Maggie, and Natalie. Great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Avenlea Alford, and Jacob Thornton; sister Barbara, and many nieces and nephews. Joyce was a crossing guard for many years as her children grew up and attended Forest Hills Elementary School.

As they grew older, she became a homemaker and helped with her four granddaughters as they started the education journeys. Her family always saw the strongest side of her, leading to the days of M.L.’s passing, and as she continued to raise her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce enjoyed her retirement in Leland, and would spend many evenings watching the hummingbirds from her porch swing with M.L. by her side as the sun went down.

She enjoyed planting an array of flowers and watched them bloom in the spring time. Joyce’s family would like to thank her special niece, Joyce Howell, for all of her help throughout the years. In lieu of flowers, we ask that you make a donation to St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

Graveside services will be Friday, March 15th, at 2 pm at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
