Joyve V. Hurner December 08, 1927 – February 04, 2019 Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Joyce “Joy” Vivian Hurner 1927- 2019 Joy was 91 years old when she died on Feb. 4, 2019 in Kenosha. She was born on Dec.

8, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois the daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Petersen) Davies. She attended school in Chicago and Des Plaines. Graduating from Walter High School, which has now been re-named Lincoln Park High School.

Joy went to American School of Beauty Culture to become a hairdresser. Later she went back to working in an office. Joy took classes in Junior College in Illinois and Oregon – tole painting, oil painting, floral arranging, calligraphy, pine needle basketry, water color painting, photography, macrame’, sign language, and teaching English to non-English speakers.

Joy moved to Salem, Oregon, upon retirement and worked there at Costco demonstrating food. In Salem, she took classes at the senior center in cutting and polishing rocks for jewelry making, and also classes in silversmithing. Joy loved to crochet, knit, do needlepoint, embroider paint, make flower arrangements, make jewelry, and just about any craft.

She was an avid reader and loved plants and flowers. Joy is survived by 2 daughters, Marilyn (Bill) Hargadon, and Barb (Dave) Neitzel; grandchildren Heather (Kevin) McCowen and Brent (Gladys) Neitzel; great grandchildren Aliyah, Josiah, and Noah McCowen, siblings Norma Weikel, Rich (Florence) Davies, Gwen (John) Gettmann and Carol (Ron) Clark. Favorite verse was I Cor.

1:18 (NIV) For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. Joy accepted Christ as her personal savior at the age of 11 while attending Moody Memorial Church. Joy will be buried at Restlawn Memory Gardens and Mausoleum in Salem Oregon.
