Koen, 85, longtime Pattison resident, passed away Thursday, December 6, 2018, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born January 7, 1933, in Jacksonville, Texas, the son of Hugh Brown Koen and Bertha Elizabeth (Alexander) Koen. He grew up and attended school in Hardin, Texas, graduating from Hardin High School.

On April 16, 1952, Jim married Jeannette Cleveland in Houston, Texas. They lived in North Houston for several years, and then Spring Branch, before making their home in Pattison. Jeannette preceded him in death on November 10, 2017, after 65 years of marriage.

Active in community affairs, Jim was a member of the Pattison United Methodist Church, Brookshire Masonic Lodge, #1066, AF & AM, the Scottish Rite and the Brookshire Lions Club. He was employed as a Master Electrician for a number of years and later served as of Justice of the Peace, for Pct. #4, in Waller County.

An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. But most of all, he treasured the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jim is survived by his daughters: Nina Koen Reynolds of Pattison, and Janis Koen Horn and her husband, Robert, of Mineola; grandchildren: Rebecca Ryland and her husband, Chris, of Brookshire, James A. Bartels of Pattison, Nina Moreland and her husband, David, also of Pattison, Stephen Bartels and his wife, Kelly, of Katy, Aubrey L. Kollatschny and his wife, Aubrey Jean, of Trenton, Kari Colley and her husband, Aaron, of Haughton, Louisiana, Ethan Horn of Mineola, Tracy Weeks and her husband, Wayne, of Lubbock, and Cory Kollatschny and his wife, Randis, of Pearland; 20 great grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; brother: Elgin Koen of Tecula; and many other dear friends and relatives.
