Judith (Judy) Herkner Harmon, 76, of Traverse City, was welcomed into the kingdom of heaven on Monday, May 6, 2019 after a long battle with incurable cancer. Judy was born on August 14, 1942 in Traverse City. She was the daughter of Oswald and Etta (Leighton) Herkner.

She was a third-generation member of the First Congregational Church and lived most of her life on the Old Mission Peninsula among the annual cherry blossoms and beloved farmland. She was the devoted wife of Bill for over 57 years, a loving mother to Shelly Harmon, Brenda Harmon Zeevaart (Scott) and Scott Harmon (Lisa) as well as, cherished grandmother to Luke, Sam, Kate, Owen, Leyton and Noah. Judy was a caring, kind, faith-centered person.

She was determined and brave. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, reading, camping, baking and a good laugh. Judy was active in her community and volunteered her time and talents to many.

But more than anything, she loved her family and devoted her life to them. She was a behind the scenes person, quietly making things happen and not looking for any recognition or credit. She set quiet examples for her children to live by and taught them the value of faith and family.

Judy (and Bill) owned and operated High Lake Orchards, Inc. and in later years co-owned Herkner Foods. She is survived by her three sisters, Lynda Herkner, Sue Keegstra and Mary Jean Deneve. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Warren Herkner.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made in her memory to the First Congregational Church Capital Campaign. The family invites all who knew and loved Judy, to attend a Celebration of Life service on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Road. The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Judy will be interred in the Garden of Remembrance immediately following the service.
