June Allen June 04, 1930 – May 18, 2019 Share this obituary Upload Photo| Send Sympathy Card June Allen, age 88, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa. She was the daughter of John and Zella Kellner born in St. Clair Shores, Michigan, and soon after moved to Warsaw, Missouri where she spent her growing up years. She married Leland Allen on July 3, 1947 after he served in the Navy during WWII with her brother Jim Kellner on the same ship.

Jim shared his sister’s letters leading to their meeting each other. After marrying June, Leland enlisted in the Army, a career that lasted twenty years, eight of which the family spent in Germany. June enjoyed being a homemaker taking good care of her family with all the moves.

She was an excellent cook. A favorite thing was learning recipes from each new place. The family favorites were pecan pie and cranberry cake at every holiday season.

After retiring in Oskaloosa, Iowa they attended the First Baptist Church where June was a member participating in various women’s groups. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a volunteer at the Ecuminical Cupboard. In her later years she enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles very much, afternoon walks and Sunday dinners on the screened porch with her daughter Shirley, and Tuesday shopping and lunch with Cyndi.

She enjoyed her time living in Oskaloosa and was known for her red geraniums every Spring on her front steps. She looked forward to seeing her other daughters Kay and Peggy when they came to visit. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Leland Allen, and four brothers, Jack Kellner, James Kellner, Bill Kellner, Donnie Kellner and one sister Violet Lane.

She is survived by her four daughters; Shirley Hunter and Cyndi Bodart, of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sharon Gilmore, of Austin, Texas, Peggy Waldron, of Peterstown, West Virginia, and six grandchildren, Jennifer Adamo, Allison Gilmore, Jason Rucker, Chris Rucker, Michele Slupinski and Chance Bodart. Arrangements for her cremation are under the direction of the Reser Funeral Home, 101 W. Main Street Warsaw, Missouri.
