Katherene Horn Samford December 02, 1924 – March 24, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card Funeral services for Katherene H. Samford, 94, of Huntington, will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Carroway Funeral Home Chapel in Huntington with Dr. Darryl Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Treadwell Cemetery. Mrs. Samford was born December 2, 1924 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of the late Bessie Leona (Skelton) and Eddie Ray Horn.

She died Sunday, March 24, 2019 in a Lufkin hospital. A former resident of Henderson, Mrs. Samford had resided in Huntington for thirteen years. She was a helpmate in ministry to her husband of 75 years, Rev.

P.A. Samford, who preceded her in death by only 45 days. She was known as a musician who played the mandolin and electric guitar. Mrs. Samford and her husband were campground hosts at Lake of the Pines for 12 years.

She was known as “Mimi” by her grandchildren. She was also known as “Sister Samford” in her ministry as a “pastor’s wife”. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Dennis and Pattie Samford of Huntington, and Mark and Cindy Samford of Moyock, North Carolina; grandchildren and spouses, Austin and Becky Samford of Huntington, Michele and Russ Schwarte of Marion, Indiana, Stephanie McKinney of Austin, Victoria and Roland Lemieux of Bealeton, Virginia, Ethan and Lauren Samford, and Erin Samford, all of Virginia Beach, Virginia; great grandchildren, Cory Samford of Boston, Massachusetts, Halee Dry of Marshall, Brendon Dry of Lufkin, Jordan Forrest, Tori Barton, both of Austin, Gabrielle Schwarte, Nathaniel Schwarte, Abigail Schwarte, all of Marion, Indiana, Blane Samford of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Rick and Lisa Lemieux of Bealeton, Virginia; sister-in-law, Maydell Benners of Mesquite; niece, Pat Boatright of Lancaster; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents; and great-great grandson, Jax Johnson. Pallbearers will be Austin Samford, Cory Samford, Brendon Dry, Jim Barnard, Gary Griffin, and Lattie Ledford. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday afternoon prior to the services.
