Obituary for Kathleen Lynn “Kathy” Lumsden Kathleen Lynn (DeRooy) Lumsden was born on November 17, 1946 to Anthony (Tony) and Myrtle DeRooy in Everett Washington, the 2nd child of eight. During her life, she served others in many ways—11 years as a councilman for the City of Rock Island, 11 years on the Chelan-Douglas Board of Health as a representative of small towns in Douglas County, and in many offices in the Rock Island Community Church and the Rock Island Missionary Circle. She also served as a Sunday School teacher and organist/pianist for the church.

In addition to her volunteer service, she worked for 30 years as an apple and pear packer, and for 40 years as a preparer of income tax returns. She was also a Chairman for a bike-a-thon for Cystic Fibrosis. For years she arranged donations of prizes from local companies to award people who rode and raised money for Cystic Fibrosis.

Kathy married Gary W. Lumsden on May 10, 1969 at the Sunnyslope Church of the Brethren. They lived in Wenatchee until 1976, when they moved to Rock Island and bought a house where they raised their four children. Kathy was active on the Rock Island Birthday Calendar committee for many years, selling ads and collecting data and sending the final copy to the company for printing; then making sure that the calendars were delivered.

She is survived by her children, John W. (Julie) Lumsden, Jennifer (David) Davis, Anthony (Dolores Gonzales) Lumsden, and Brian, (Katherine Green) Lumsden, her grandchildren Carmen Anderson Som, Gary R. Lumsden, Wynona McEdward, David C. Davis III, Ashley Davis, and Dallas Davis, Elizabeth Lumsden, Henry Lumsden, and Braiden Lumsden, one great-grandson, Jackson Som, Sisters Sherry Bowen-Coriell, Linda (Gary Cook) Holmes-Cook, Diane derooij, Vicki DeRooy, and Debbie DeRooy; sisters –in-law Carolyn Bass of Spokane and Katherine (Aaron) Dittman of Medical Lake, brother-in-law Terry (Loretta Stanfield) Lumsden, and Larry (Patty) Lumsden, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by her husband Gary W. Lumsden, mother-in-law Evelyn Farley, her father, Anthony A. DeRooy, mother Myrt DeRooy, brother Tim DeRooy, and her grandson, Anthony Joseph Lumsden Jr. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at Calvary Chapel; 2200 N. Baker Avenue, East Wenatchee. Arrangements are by Chapel of the Valley, Wenatchee.
