She spent her entire life serving and helping others. In her work career, she served as a valued executive secretary or assistant for several of Shelbyville’s most distinguished business leaders. She especially loved accounting.

In her ministry, she served tirelessly for animal welfare. She rescued and cared for critters of all shapes and sizes. She was a founder and charter member of Shelbyville Bedford County Humane Society.

She supported many causes that put animals before convenience. She was steadfast in the cause, conducting countless mercy missions to assist animals, as well as helping pet-owners with supplies. She received numerous awards for her service including: The Professional Woman’s Luncheon Volunteer of the Year, SBCCC Good Citizen Award, SBCCC Deery Eakin Volunteer of the Year, SBCCC Franklin Yates Lifetime Achievement Award, and more.

While she appreciated the recognition, because it brought attention to the cause, she always received her satisfaction directly from the animals she served. She was a member of First United Methodist Church from a young age, where she sang in the choir. In her school years, she was a proud team member of Shelbyville Golden Eaglettes basketball, and was salutatorian of the Class of 1949.
