Keith Wayne Lussier, Sr., “Waa-Waash Binesi” which means “Swift Bird”, age 63, of the Eagle Clan and Red Lake Minnesota began his journey to the spirit world on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from his home. Keith was born in Minneapolis, MN on April 2, 1955 to Marcella (StandingCloud) and William Lussier, Sr. Keith grew up and attended school in Minneapolis before moving to Red Lake at the age of 25. He embraced and was very proud of his culture.

Through out his life he dedicated himself to teaching and sharing those traditions. Keith was the Chairman of the Grand Governing Counsel of the American Indian Movement (AIM) and the Chairman of the Northern Eagle AIM Chapter of Red Lake. He also worked for the Red Lake School District and the community for many years.

Keith was working on his dream, creating a place in Red Lake for ceremonies and other cultural teachings. In his free time, he enjoyed carving pipes for whoever needed one and teaching pipe carving to others in hope of carrying on the tradition. Keith was very much a family man who loved spending time with his wife, kids, grandchildren, great grandchildren, family and his friends.

Family welcoming Keith to the spirit world are parents Marcella and William Lussier, Sr., sisters; Wilma and Laura Lussier and Linda Lachner, nephews; Jason Lussier and Johnson BrownEagle and other relatives. He leaves behind his Wife; Polly Lussier of Redby, daughters; Clarissa and Rose Lussier, Maya and Waubi Spry and Shallah Bosto sons; Robert Lussier, Sr. and Keith Lussier, Jr., grandchildren; Paul Lee, Rick, Darin, Westin, Lindsey, KaeLeigh, Lily, Keith III, John, Lucille, Robert Jr., Michael, LaRissa, Caylah, Cereena, Ivan, Amaya, Andrea and Elijah, great grandchildren; Alayna and Aria, special niece; Money Woman Stately, other nieces and nephews and many friends. A wake for Keith will begin at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 3rd and continue until his 10:00 a.m. traditional services on Monday, November 5th all being held at the Redby Community Center in Redby, MN.

Zac Earley and Ty Stately will be his Spiritual Advisors. Helping to lay Keith to rest are Rain Stately, Golden Stately, Zach Stately, Jeff LaGou, Anthony Green, Jeffery May, Gary Lussier, Jr., Michael Lachner, David Lachner, Brandon Lussier, Sr., Phillip Lussier, Sr., Corey Stately, Harold Graves, Jr. and William Lussier III. His honorary pallbearers are Clyde Bellecourt, Ron Long, Susie Bellecourt, Leilani Blake, Candace LaGou, Robyn Isham, Terri Nelson, Taylor LaGou, Floyd “Buck” Jourdain, Steven StandingCloud, Eugene StandingCloud and Vincent Lachner.

Interment will be in the Lussier Family Burial Site at Red Lake following his services. Keith’s care has been entrusted to Northern Peace Funeral Home of Walker. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.
