Kelly Marie Shaeffer, 28, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2018. She was born on March 31, 1990 in Fort Polk, Louisiana to Edward Hughes and Jean (Edgar) Kitchen. She was a 2008 graduate of Leechburg High School.

She married her sweetheart, Jesse Shaeffer, on August 10, 2014. They have a daughter, Reilynn Rosemae Shaeffer, born in 2015. Kelly is survived by her parents, Ed Hughes and Jean Kitchen, by her brothers John Hughes (and wife Allyson) and Hayden Goughenour-Hughes, and her sisters Ashley and Kendal Kitchen, and Vivian, Veronica, and Victoria Kennerdall.

Before her passing, she fought an aggressive battle against DIPG, a rare brain cancer. Kelly was full of faith in Jesus and never lost that faith, choosing to go on a mission trip with her church in the middle of her battle with DIPG. Always sassy and energetic throughout her life, she lived life to the fullest.

Even as the DIPG progressed, she insisted on going to picnics and family parties, to cancer benefits, to church, and on special outings to places like the zoo, concerts, and the aviary. When she couldn’t get around, she still lived life fully by chatting with friends online, snacking on gummies, spending time with family, and of course posting thousands of her favorite recipes. Kelly will always be remembered for her bravery, her faith, her sass, and her never-give-up attitude.

She will always be loved by her husband Jesse, her daughter Reilynn, and by her parents, sisters, brothers, and all her other family members and friends. A visitation for all her friends and family will be held at Life Church, 372 Slate Run Road, Greensburg, PA on Tuesday, September 25, 2018 from 5 PM to 7 PM with a special service to celebrate Kelly’s life to be held immediately after the visitation at 7 PM.
