OBITUARY Kenneth “Ken” Haydu August 8, 1951 – October 16, 2018 Kenneth “Ken” Haydu, 67 of Southport passed away on October 16, 2018. Mr. Haydu was born August 8, 1951 to the late George and Wanda Haydu. He was a Graduate of King’s Point Academy.

Ken spent his life going to sea as a member of the United States Merchant Marines. He had sailed all over the world, was an avid reader, and really enjoyed his retirement. Mr. Haydu was preceded in death by a son Steve Haydu.

Survivors include his wife Darla LeClerc; two daughters Terrie Aberle and husband Adam, and their three children, Stephen Aberle, Landon Aberle, and Marlowe Aberle; daughter Sarah Haydu and fiancée Glenn Sanderson, a daughter-in-law Cori McQueen, and her son Jack Haydu; two sisters, Adrienne Haydu and her son Jesse Filion, and Michele Poppe and her husband Charlie; and two step-children, Michael LeClerc and Misty LeClerc. A time of visitation will be held on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 5:00 to 6:00pm in the Southport Baptist Church CMC building. In memory of Ken, the family requests that memorials be made to the Steve Haydu St. Patrick’s Day Lo Tide Run, PO Box 1116 Carolina Beach, NC 28428 or to the Southport Maritime Museum, 204 E Moore St, Southport, NC 28461.
