Obituary of Kenneth Clouse Kenneth Elwood Clouse, 91, of Felton, CA, passed away in the early afternoon on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at Santa Cruz Post Acute Transitional Care Center, following a fall on March 10, 2018. He was born in Altoona, Pennsylvania to Elwood s. and Marth M. (Loose) Clouse. He married Betty J. Peterman on June 28, 1954, in Altoona Pennsylvania.

Surviving are his wife, and his son, Timothy, of Felton. Growing up in the Llyswen section on Altoona, he started first grade at the age of five at the Baker School and stayed there through grade six. He then went to Roosevelt Jr. High School and then Altoon High School from which he graduated class of 1944.

While in high school he had a radio operating license. He was hired by WFBG Radio to replace an older person who entered the military. After graduation from high school, he finished two semesters of college at Penn State (Altoon Campus) before reaching 18 years of age and enlisting in the U.S. Army and serving during the last year of W.W.II.

After serving in the army, he returned to college and graduated from the University of Southern California in August 1950 with a B.A. degree in Cinematography with a minor in Business. Ken returned to Altoona and was a member of the “Junior Chamber of Commerce,” called the Jaycees. They met each week at the Penelec Building which was the Pennsylvania Electric Co. One night while attending a meeting he was introduced to a young lady named Betty Peterman.

This began a friendship leading to love and eventual marriage. In 1953 after reading an article in Moody Monthly, he applied for and was accepted for employment at the “Moody Institute of Science” located in West Los Angeles. There he was part of a dedicated group making motion pictures relating to scripture from the Bible and then relating that to science.

They also made films of Bible stories for children. He was involved closely in making materials which explained how to run a successful Sunday School and also the advertising for M.I.S. In 1954 a quick trip was made to Pennsylvania to claim Betty as his bride. The honey moon was the trip across country by car to California.

It was a fast trip because Moody Institute only gave him three weeks to get back to Pennsylvania, get married and then return to California. After living a couple of years in an apartment in West Los Angeles, they bought a home in the San Fernando Valley. Then in late 1959, he left M.I.S., and they relocated to Los Gatos, California.

He went into business for himself with “Kenneth E. Clouse Instructional Materials, while simultaneously serving for 15 years as the Executive Director of the “Pacific Educational Marketing Association,” which was a group of 350 members that supplied educational materials and equipment to the western U.S. In the fall of 1964, Ken and Betty bought a home in Felton, C.A. Three years later in the fall of 1967 their son Timothy was born. Ken continued on with KECCO Instructional Materials until he retired in 1993 at the age of 66. Ken was a history buff.

He had many books, items and videos on history. A great deal of his interest was in his adopted state of California. In his later years he became an expert on California pioneer, John Bidwell.

He was an active member of the Felton Presbyterian Church since 1968. He taught adult Sunday School and served as an Elder and as Chairman of the Corporational for a while. A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 28, 11 a.m. at the Felton Presbyterian Church.
