Obituary for Kristina M. Schumann Schumann, Kristy Kristy passed away unexpectedly June 25, 2018 after suffering a stroke. Kristy was born September 21, 1968. Like many babies born with Down Syndrome at that time, Kristy was not expected to thrive nor even to live.

She proved them wrong every step of the way through her feistiness and the care of parents Gerry and Ken Schumann. Kristy was a central part of her family and is survived by siblings Kim (Holt), Ken, Kerry, Kathy (Fernandez), and Kelly, their spouses and children, and a large extended family. Kristy had a wicked sense of humor, a love for music, and a talent for art.

Kristy’s “family” extended far beyond her immediate parents and siblings. She was lucky to have a second family in Sara and Matt Geszvain and their children who cared for her when Ken and Gerry traveled. Carole and Leon Burzynski and their children were also family for Kristy.

She had her Camp Pow Wow family, her family at Goodwill, and the many friends she made at goat shows, 4-H events, and bluegrass concerts. She’d introduce herself to everyone she met with her famous opening line, “when’s your birthday? ” and had a friend for life.

Services are pending at this time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her beloved Camp Pow Wow here: www. justgiving.com/fundraising/Kerry-Schumann To send flowers or a memorial gift to the family of Kristina M. Schumann please visit our Sympathy Store.
