Obituary for Kyle Henry “”Henny”” Kern Print Kyle “Henny” Henry Kern – Duffield, VA Kyle Henry Kern, 80, Duffield, VA passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2019 at the Alamance Regional Medical Center, Burlington, NC Henry was born in Scott County, VA on August 14, 1938 and lived there most of his life. His parents, Radford and Della Pruitt Kern; his step-mother, Nora Dingus Lee Kern; brothers, Loring, Garland and Clyde Kern; sisters, Ruby Cole, Lovely Lane, Dora Carter, Marie Herron and Ruth Brickey preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the United States Army and for several years following was employed by Bartlett’s Tree Service.

He retired from the Westmoreland Coal Company Bullitt Complex when the mines closed operations in 1995, after 27 years of service. He enjoyed a few years of truck driving after his retirement. His hobbies were bee-keeping, farming, live-stock, and helping his neighbors with any projects.

In his later years Henry spent most of his time at his pic-nic table talking with his neighbors and friends, especially his best friends Danny Kern and Carter Chapman. Henry is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Beaulah Snavely Kern; 2 daughters, Lori and husband, Craig Burton and Marlene and husband, Randy Hunter; 7 grandchildren, who faithfully stayed by his side, Charly and Josh Windsor, Brad Burton, Kyle Peeks and Alyssa Saunders, Marilyn and Matt Clay, Ginger and Joe Dasilva, all of Mebane, NC, Brandi and Mandi Hunter, Burlington, NC; 2 great grandchildren, Natalynn Windsor and Alissa Dasilva; 1 sister, Ann “Myrt” Cumbo, Belfont, OH; 1 brother, Raymond Lee, Parts Unknown; along with many nieces and nephews and all of his in-laws that thought the world of. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Friday, January 25, 2019 at the Gate City Funeral Home.

Funeral services will follow at 8:00 p.m. in the Gene Falin Memorial Chapel of the funeral home with Brother Garnie Snavely and Brother Robbie Dockery officiating. Music will be provided by his granddaughters, and the Durhams Chapel Quartet. Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. in the Powell Valley Memorial Gardens, Big Stone, VA, with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Hammond Post #3, Kingsport, TN and Post #265, Gate City, VA.

Kyle Peeks, Josh Windsor, Brad Burton, Matt Clay, Joe Dasilva, Robbie Dockery, Craig Burton and Randy Hunter will serve as pallbearers. Danny Kern, Toby Hilton, Carter Chapman, Trevor Chapman, Harold Dillon and Doug Dillon will serve as honorary pallbearers. Family and Friends are asked to meet at the funeral home at 9:45 a.m. to go in procession to the graveside service.
