Obituary for L.A. Brewer L A. “Shorty” Brewer, 94, of Muskogee, Oklahoma passed away Friday, June 29, 2018 at his home. He was born February 28, 1924 in Summerfield, Oklahoma to Ben Harrison Brewer and Ida Mae (Johnson) Brewer. L. A. proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during WWII from which he received an Honorable Discharge.

He married the love of his life, June Flinn, on December 31, 1948 in Muskogee, Oklahoma. They shared 66 1/2 years of life and marriage together. L. A. worked as a machinist at Coburn Optical for many years.

He also worked at Anderson Wholesale, and really enjoyed working the livestock auctions in Stigler, Tahlequah, and Muskogee. He was a member and past President of the Oklahoma Muleskinners and a member of the Authentic Old West Club. L. A. was an avid fisherman and loved hosting his annual fish fry on the 3rd Saturday of June.

He also loved his yearly deer and elk hunts to Colorado, a tradition he carried for more than 50 years. L. A. will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; son, James Eric; and sister, Gladys Brewer Crouch, and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He is survived by his daughter, Teresa Brewer Williams; son, Anthony Lynn Brewer; 6 grandchildren, Ben and Daniel Harbison, Kelsey Green (Chris), Samantha Brewer, Norway and Fredrick Brewer; 4 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Shirley Flinn Orman and husband Jack; brothers-in-law, Andy “Sonny” Flinn, Carl Cotton Flinn and wife Phyllis; special nephew, Roy Flinn; along with other family members and many friends. L. A.’s life will be celebrated at 10AM, Thursday, July 5, 2018 at Cornerstone Funeral Home with Chaplain Bill Crow officiating. Interment will follow at Brushy Mountain Cemetery with Daniel Harbison, Roy Flinn, Ed Jones, Charles Smith, Bobby Pilkerton, and Jody Hinkle serving as pallbearers.

The family would like to send a special “Thank You” to Ms. LaWanda Armstrong, Ms. Tracy Burns, and Mr. Uriah Grass of Cima Hospice for their care and compassion which allowed him to remain in his home of 63 years until the end.
