OBITUARY Larry James Webster Sr. July 8, 1941 – December 29, 2018 WEST COLUMBIA – Larry James Webster, Sr., 77, of West Columbia lived his life with great hope of heaven. That hope was realized on December 29 when his earthly life ended and he met his Savior. Larry was born on July 8, 1941 to the late Jack and Hattie Webster.

Larry was a faithful member of Shandon Baptist Church for more than 40 years and a member of Ed Kennedy’s Sunday School class. He made it his mission to make sure his children knew Jesus as their personal Savior. Larry rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer in the Coast Guard and spent most of his 22 years in the southeast.

After retirement he worked for 20 years for the SCESC (Job Services) in Columbia. Larry is survived by Hedy Emerson Webster, his loving wife of 57 years. Larry and Hedy loved to tell the story of how they fell in love at first sight even though each was engaged to someone else.

They became the proud parents of 4 children, Larry, Jr. (Julie) of Columbia, Johnny (Jennifer) of Fort Mill, Wendy Webster of the home, and Courtney Fuller (Jamie) of Charleston. Their grandchildren are Alex, Ashton, Spencer and Nic Webster and Jackson, Thomas and Walker Fuller. Larry was predeceased by brothers Brian, Bobby Vernon, Kenneth and David.

The family would like to thank Dr. C.W. Hendricks of Columbia Heart Clinic, Dr. Jack Crumbley of MUSC who performed Larry’s heart transplant in 2002, and Dr. Van Bakel of MUSC. They also want to thank all of the nurses and medical staff who so lovingly provided care for Larry throughout his medical issues. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Shandon Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2019 with the Reverends Dennis Banks and Jerry Long officiating.
