Freeland, Michigan Passed away peacefully Thursday morning December 27, 2018 at StoneCrest Assisted Living Facility, Freeland at the age of 101 years. Laura was born January 13, 1917 in Freeland, MI to the late Robert W. and Bertha A. (King) Delaney and she has resided in this area her whole life. Laura was a life-long member of the Freeland United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday school for preschoolers for several years.

Laura was also an active member of the United Methodist Women’s Society. She also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, crossword puzzles and Yahtzee. On January 1, 1938 Laura married Miles E. Heffel, he predeceased her on November 12, 2004.

Laura is survived by her children; Pat L. Cooke of Chicago, IL, James R. Heffel of Freeland, MI, Jill A. (Ron) Compton of Saginaw, MI. Grandchildren; Michele J. (Joe Jacoby) Chmielewski, Kristine E. (Robert) Ellerbruch, Kimberly N. Heffel, Karin A. (Todd) Heffel Steele, Tamra S. (Greg) Pell, Sean D. (Melanie) Compton, great grandchildren; Benjamin (Christi) Breiding, Ella Jacoby, Elin Pell, Jackson Pell and great great granddaughter; Charlotte Breiding, sisters; Grace Leaman, Mable Jansen and sisters-in-law; Elaine Delaney and Rosemary Heffel. Laura was predeceased by a daughter; Suzanne C. Heffel, brothers; Grant (Ruth) Delaney, Robert (Barbara) Delaney, Roy Delaney and sister-in-law; Louise Heffel.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday December 30, 2018 at the Freeland United Methodist Church, Freeland. Rev. Ron Compton will officiate.

Burial will take place 11:00 a.m. Wednesday January 2, 2019 at Pine Grove Cemetery, Freeland. Friends may call at the Cunningham/Taylor Funeral Home, 310 E. Washington St. Freeland on Saturday from 3:00-7:00 p.m. and at the church on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services. In Lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Freeland United Methodist Church, StoneCrest Assisted Living, Heartland Hospice, Bay City or the donor’s favorite charity.
