OBITUARY Laura Manno Campagna March 5, 1920 – December 31, 2018 It is with heavy hearts that we said goodbye to our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, who passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 at the age of 98. She was so looking forward to her 99th birthday. She was born on March 5, 1920, and a lifelong resident of Baton Rouge.
Our mom was a gentle lady, a true family matriarch, who devoted her life to her family. Her faith and devotion to the Catholic Church was unwavering. She was an excellent cook, loved her beautiful flowers and in her earlier years was a fan of her Friday night card games.
In recent years her favorite pastime was playing on her IPAD. She also enjoyed tracking weekly winners on her annual LSU Football Board. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sara Ginn, Libby Campagna, George (Sue) Campagna, Jr., Mary (Rory) Lato, and son-in-law Albert (Suzanne) Langlois; 10 grandchildren, Steve (Karen) Langlois, Michael (Teena) Ginn, Darren (Kim) Langlois, Scott (Laurie) Ginn, Dustin (Rebecca) Campagna, Kaci (Genin) Roy, Breanne Landry (Johnny Curtis), Rory (Nicole) Lato, Jr., Lindsey (Kyle) Hargroder, and Christopher (Courtney) Campagna; 17 great grandchildren, Kayla (Josh) Zumo, Matthew Langlois (Lauren Taylor), Jordan, Kyle and Taylor Langlois, Alex, Blair, John Eric and Riley Ginn, Silas Campagna, Alexis and Foster Roy, Jackson Landry, Blaise, Austin, and Kate Lato, and Laurel Hargroder; her great great grandson, Anthony Zumo; and also several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, George Campagna, Sr., her precious daughter, Jo Carolyn Campagna Langlois, son-in-law, whom was like a son to her, Launnie Ginn; parents, Jack and Josephine Fasullo Manno; sister, Mayme Lee Manno; and brothers, Frank, Louis, Joe, Myles and Kelly Manno. Visitation will be held at Greenoaks Funeral Home on Thursday, January 3, 2019, from 5pm-9pm, with a recitation of the rosary at 8:30pm. Services will be at St. Jean Vianney Catholic Church on Friday, January 4, 2019, at 10am, celebrated by Father Tom Ranzino, with a visitation beginning at 8:30am.
A Christian Burial will be at Greenoaks Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be her seven grandsons. We would like to thank her sitters, Isra, Angela, Sylvia, Mary, Shelia and Charlotte for their dedication, care, and friendship shown to our mom.
We would also like to extend a special thank you to Kristen and Farrah. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to American Heart Association, Alzheimer’s Services of Capital Area or Lupus Foundation of America. Her quick wit, sharp mind, and loving heart will be dearly missed by all.
You can shed tears that she is gone or you can smile because she has lived. You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her or you can be full of the love you shared.
You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday. You can remember her and only that she’s gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on. You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
