Laurence Hoesel, 89, New Salem, died January 22, 2019 at Elm Crest Manor in New Salem. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Zion Lutheran Church, New Salem, with Rev. Curt Peters officiating.

Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 3 pm on Friday, January 25, 2019 at Elm Crest Manor and continue from 5 to 6:30 pm at the church with a prayer service at 6:30 pm. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Laurence was born June 3, 1929 to Carl and Helen (Kunz) Hoesel of Judson. He attended country school through the eighth grade. After school, Laurence made farming his life’s work.

On September 10, 1950 he married Alice DeCamp in Hannover. The two made their home on the Carl Hoesel farmstead where they raised three sons and two daughters. Laurence enjoyed engineering challenges and was gifted with the ability to often create what he needed.

He enjoyed fishing, especially on the ice. Laurence served the Lord in many capacities at Zion Lutheran Church. He also served on the Farmer’s Union Elevator board for over 30 years as well as other community organizations.

Blessed to have shared in his life are his children, Weldon (Ronda) Hoesel, Lidgerwood, ND, Colleen (Randy) Klusmann, Kulm, Bryan (Vicki) Hoesel, New Salem, Kevin (Penny) Hoesel, Hannover, and Lynette Voigt, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren, Juli (Craig) Mauch, Jeret (Stephanie) Hoesel, Jason (Calli) Klusmann, Todd (Cayla) Klusmann, Nathan (Brandy) Klusmann, Sara (Justin) Spickler, Darren Hoesel, Russ Hoesel, Jeremy (Nicole) Hoesel, Shelby (Chad) Finch, and Eli, Ethan, and Abby Voigt; 25 great grandchildren; one brother, Wilbert (MaryAnn) Hoesel, Mandan; one sister, Irene VanderVorst, Mandan; and a sister-in-law, Ann Hoesel, Wyoming. Laurence was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Alice, in 2016; his parents; three brothers, Ervin, Harold, and Milton; one sister, LaVerne Demianew; son-in-law, Jay Voigt; and granddaughter-in-law, Jennifer Hoesel.
