OBITUARY Laurie Disimone August 29, 1924 – September 1, 2018 Evelyn Loretta “Laurie” Kiel Disimone passed away on September 1, 2018 at the age of 94. She was born in St. Louis Missouri on August 29, 1924. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Paul J. Kiel and Loretta Dwyer Kiel; her sister Mary Kiel Vollmer; her brothers, Paul Kiel Jr, and William Kiel; her husband John Felix Disimone; her son John Felix Disimone Jr

She is survived by her children, Nancy Disimone Ross (Dr. Edwin Ross), Robert Disimone (Poppy Disimone), and Diane Disimone Sambola (Gerald Sambola) and her six grandchildren Colin Ross (Toni DiMaggio), Kimberly Ross Mathews (Josh Mathews), Russell Cole Jr., Clayton Sambola, Bryanne Sambola, and Lea Disimone. Laurie worked as a flight attendant in the 1940s until her marriage in July of 1946 at Immaculate Conception Church in St. Louis, Missouri. When she stepped off of the airplane on her first flight to New Orleans, she fell in love with the culture, life, and warmth of the city and knew that she was here to stay.

Laurie was a founding member of the Clipped Wings association of retired flight attendants. She enjoyed attending events at Metairie Country Club, Mardi Gras balls and parties of the Krewes of Bacchus, Mid City, and Cleopatra, and traveling with her husband, John. She was an active member of the Krewe of Cleopatra and reigned as Queen Cleopatra XVIII.

Laurie was a loving mother, and a devoted and caring grandmother. Her positive attitude and ever-present smile brought happiness to all she encountered. The family would like to recognize her loving caregivers Joyce Williams, Danita Weber, and Patricia McCalebb who have been at her bedside with us during her declining health.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Thursday, September 6, 2018 at 2:00 pm. Visitation will began at 12:30 until service time. Interment to follow in Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum.
