LaVern A Holmer, age 92, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at Heritage Community in Park Rapids, Minnesota. LaVern was born June 5, 1926, in Frazee, Minnesota, to John and Lena (Tober) Ziolkowski. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corliss Township.

LaVern attended country school and Perham Public School. During WW II, she worked in Minneapolis at the Twin City ordinance plant inspecting 32 caliber cartridges. She worked in the stock room for the dime store in Fargo.

LaVern waitressed in Detroit Lakes at Erie 34 and Fireside Supper Club. She also was the neighborhood Avon Lady in Frazee for several years. LaVern married Dale Peterson in 1946.

They had two sons, Royce and Maurice. They later divorced and she married Donald (Hub) Holmer in 1964. They made their home in Frazee and were members of the community until 2010.

LaVern enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, and bingo. LaVern and Hub were able to do a lot of traveling to visit family and friends across the country. She had a green thumb and loved to garden.

Her dill pickles were always a hit and her sons have carried on the family tradition. LaVern had a great sense of humor, told it as it was, and enjoyed life to the fullest. She is survived by her sons: Royce (Kathy) Peterson of Park Rapids; Maurice (Gail) Peterson of Cold Spring; grandchildren: Karla (Thomas) Mueller, Tanya (Ross) Terman, Ben (Danielle) Peterson, Matt (Elysia) Peterson; great-grandchildren: Oliver and Tessa Peterson, Marissa, Kyrah and Ava Peterson; step great-grandchildren: Lauren and Jake Mueller.

Sister: Helen (Jim) Concannon of Livermore, California. In-laws: Donna Luptak of Bismarck, Dick (Marjorie) Holmer of Topeka, Kansas; Harry (Donna) Holmer of Silver Bay; Betty Holmer, Vivian Holmer of Frazee and many nieces and nephews. LaVern was preceded in death by her husband Donald in 2010; parents John Ziolkowski and Lena (Tober) Ziolkowski Boedigheimer; stepfather Joseph Boedigheimer, and her sister Dolly Nundahl.

A private memorial service was held per LaVern‘s wishes.
