Hamilton – LaVonne Marie Babby Hoselton was born in Pine Ridge, South Dakota on December 19, 1936, the second child of Dennis and Alvina Babby’s four children. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side at Community Medical Center in Missoula Montana, on September 14, 2018, at the age of 81. As an enrolled member of the Oglala Sioux Tribe, LaVonne grew up on the Pine Ridge, Fort Peck, Umatilla, and Fort Hall Reservations.

LaVonne graduated from Blackfoot High School in Idaho. She attended Grimms Business College in Pocatello, Idaho and Kingman Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. LaVonne worked for many government agencies throughout her career; including Tektronix, Inc., The Navy, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land Management, and the US Forest Service.

She was a dedicated and reliable employee. She retired in 1993 at the age of 55. On November 28, 1958 she married Charles Daniel Hoselton, and from this union their three children were born.

LaVonne and Charles later divorced in 1969. LaVonne selflessly cared for and loved her children. She raised her children in Billings, MT.

In 1982, she moved to Hamilton, MT. Her children were the light of her life. Her world revolved around them.

Her strength, courage, and determination brought her through each day, as did her infectious sense of humor! She relied on God to supply her every need. Her children could not thank her enough for all of the sacrifices she made for them as a single mother.

She was always there for them. Not a day will go by, that they won’t miss her, and look forward to the day when they will all be together again. She poured out her love to each and every one of them.

That love continued as the family continued to grow, adding two wonderful sons-in-laws and a wonderful daughter-in-law. LaVonne also selflessly helped care for both of her parents until their passing. Next came her seven grandchildren.

She was loved and adored by all of them. She was blessed with her first great grandchild on August 15, 2017. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton.

She was proceeded in death by her parents Dennis Ival and Alvina Amelia Babby, and her brother Wyman Dennis Babby. LaVonne’s legacy will live on through her children. CATHY (Joe) Claxton, Hamilton, MT, DEANNA (Chris) Barham, Billings, MT, DAN (Becky) Hoselton, Hamilton, MT.

She is also survived by her brother LLOYD (Patricia) Babby, Boise Idaho, her dearest sister JOYCE (Bruce) Peterson, Missoula, MT, and sister-in-law (Donna) Babby, Billings, MT. She is also survived by numerous wonderful cousins, nieces & nephews, including her adopted Claxton family members and friends.

She is also survived by her faithful dog Ivy Jo. A vigil will be held Thursday, September 20th, at 7:00 p.m., at The Daly-Leach Chapel in Hamilton. The funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 21st at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Church in Hamilton.

Her burial will follow at a later date in Martin SD. LaVonne requested that in lieu of flowers, if you so choose, that donations be made to The Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Drive. Pine Ridge, SD 57770-2100, or go online to: www.
