LEATHA MAE GREEN Leatha Mae Green was born on June 1, 1951, in Boley, Oklahoma (Chilesville) to the union of Sebron Green Sr. and Effie Mae Ramsey Green. She was the sixth child of eight sibilings. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, two sibilings, and a nephew.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and was baptized at New Hope Baptist Church in Chilesville. She later moved to Kansas City, Missouri and united with Mount Siani Baptist Church. She received her elementary education from Chilesvile Elementary School and her High School education from Boley High School.

She attended and graduated from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work. At Langston she also joined the prestigious Sorority Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc She later completed her master’s degree in social work in 2003 from the University of Missouri-Kansas City while working and helping her niece.

While her niece Latosha Green battled her autoimmune disorder at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Leatha became an instrumental part in her niece’s health and recovery. Her philanthropic spirit never allowed her to give up helping her niece find the best doctors that would help her overcome.

Leatha opened her home and her heart to all her nieces and nephews that needed her help and guidance. Her heart of gold, strong will, determination, and her willingness to help others will forever be cherished. Her love and loyalty to her family through her acts of service was nothing short of amazing.

Leatha worked at Western Missouri Mental Health from 1984 to 2005 were she retired. She truly enjoyed helping others find their way in life; in the hopes that they would become better individuals in the community. Leatha managed many homeless community projects to uplift the spirits of others.

She became very devoted to her work, family, her friends, and most of all her Lord and SaLeatha Mae Green battled breast and bone cancer for four years with grace. Despite the overwhelming pain that she suffered from she never complained. Instead she spent every day loving, laughing, and enjoying her days with her niece Sariah Dion Downey and her nephew Donald Joseph Bierre.

They became her light in mist of her darkness that she had to face. She faced cancer with strength while also remaining humble and serving God through her acts of kindness. She continued to live her life walking in love to the bitter end.

Leatha lost her fight with cancer on January 10, 2019 and went home to be with the Lord. She leaves to cherish her memory her loving son Kris Elbert Green Okemah, Oklahoma, her brother James Weldon Green Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, eldest sister Norma Lee Ruffin Kansas City, Missouri, Pearlie Mae Grubbs Kansas City, Missouri, Margaret Ree Haddox Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and her baby sister Robertha Green Boley, Oklahoma. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins that adored her being a part of their lives and giving them chocolate candy.

She will be laid to rest in her beloved hometown of Boley, Oklahoma. Her memory will forever live on in the many lives, and hearts of the people that she touched. vior Jesus Christ.
