Leola’s Obituary Big Rapids – Leola M. Allers, 79, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, February 23, 2019, at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. She was born February 23, 1940, in Lyons, the daughter of Merrill and Maude (Sanford) Ogg, and graduated from Morley-Stanwood High School in 1958. On February 14, 1959, she married Raymond T. Allers, and has lived in the Big Rapids area since.

For 33 years, Leola worked as an All-Around for Wolverine World Wide, retiring in 2002. She was a longtime member of the Big Rapids Eagles Aerie #2535. Leola loved spending time with her grandchildren, and especially enjoyed outdoor activities such as golfing and fishing.

Ray preceded her in death on April 21, 2016. Surviving are 1 daughter Sheryl (Lee) Mankel of Sand Lake; 1 son, Darrell (Sonja) Allers of Atlanta, GA; 4 grandchildren, Rochelle and Tiffany Kim, and Kyle (Lorena) and Danielle Allers; a great-grandson Cyrus Kim; 2 sisters, Rosalie (Warren) Bolton of Rodney; Melva (Hank( Vroegindewey of Grand Rapids; sisters-in-law Virginia Polhamus of Big Rapids, Maxine Smith and Bonnie Johnson of Muskegon, and Shirley Norton of Rockford; brothers-in-law Kenny (Geri) Allers of Hersey, Dale (Cathy) Allers of Cedar Springs, and Gordy (Joan) Allers of Big Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. Leola was also preceded in death by her brother Donald Ogg, as well as several other Allers in-laws.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2019, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Dave Westover officiating. Spring burial will be in the Pine Plains Cemetery. Leola’s family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, February 26, from 4-8 p.m., and prior to services on Wednesday.

Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Hospice of Michigan, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
