LeRoy H. Schumacher, age 89 of Massillon passed away Friday December 21, 2018. LeRoy was born July 22, 1929 in Massillon to the late Homer & Florence (Oberlin) Schumacher. He was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School and a football letterman for three years.

He received an honorable discharge from the US Army. LeRoy founded Schumacher Construction and Development Companies in 1958. He was a founding member of the Builders Exchange and received the Distinguish Service Award.

LeRoy was an active community leader and received the Washington High School Distinguished Citizen Award in 2017 and the Paul David Humanitarian Award in 2010. He served as past president of Massillon Rotary, Lions Club, Touchdown Club and a member of the Booster Club. Served on the board of Salvation Army, a member of Clinton Lodge #47 F & AM, Scottish Rite, Al Koran Temple, founding member of the Orangeman and a member of the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association.

LeRoy and Betty’s favorite hobby was collecting antique mechanical musical instruments. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, David and James. Leroy is survived by his wife Betty (Eckroad) with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.

They have two sons, Todd (Beverly Paulus) Schumacher and Kim (Pam) Schumacher. There are five grandchildren: Jill (Thomas) Maxson, Laura (Kenny) Hunt, Derek Schumacher, Leslie (Justin) DiRuzza and Paul Schumacher; there are four great grandchildren Scarlett, Ethan, Sophie and Owen. Funeral Service will be 11 AM Wednesday December 26, 2018 at the Paquelet Funeral Home.

Final resting place will be Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call Wednesday from 9 AM until the time of the service at the Paquelet Funeral Home. Memorials in his name may be made to Massillon Salvation Army.
