Leslie “Les” Terry May 06, 1939 – March 01, 2019 Share this obituary Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Leslie “Les” Terry of Milton-Freewater passed away on March 1, 2019 at Milton-Freewater Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 79 years. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 102 S. Main, Milton-Freewater. A private interment will be held at the Milton-Freewater Cemetery.

Those who wish may make memorial contributions in memory of Les to the Breadbasket or First Baptist Church. Leslie was born on May 6, 1939 in Gooding Idaho. As a youngster he moved with his family to Milton, just up the river and he attended Grove Elementary.

When he was in high school the family moved into town one block from Mac High. He still holds the record for being late to school. After high school he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for four years.

After the Marines he attended college at Eastern Oregon College where he studied biology. During college he met Sandra also from Milton-Freewater, OR. They got married on September 10, 1966.

Les and Sandra then transferred to Oregon State University, where he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Wildlife Biology. Sandra earned a teaching degree, together they graduated in 1969. In May of 1970 they moved to Amherst, Massachusetts where Les worked in Wildlife Biology.

They moved to Elkins, West Virginia in 1970. While there, the couple had two children, Lynn born in 1971 and George in 1974. In 1977 Les was transferred to Odenton, Maryland where they lived for 33 years.

In Maryland Les and George enjoyed hiking and camping with the Boy Scouts. Lynn kept him busy helping with her horse. Sandra taught at Arundel Middle School for 25 years.

In 2000 Les retired as a wildlife biologist and in 2001, Sandra joined Les in retirement. They moved back to Milton-Freewater in September 2001. Les kept busy volunteering at the local Breadbasket and helping out at the First Baptist Church.

Since 2010 he has been fighting COPD, congestive heart failure and other age related issues. He leaves behind his wife Sandra, daughter Lynn Gordon, his son George and his grandchildren Jennifer and Jack Gordon. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Georgia Terry and his sister Nellie Cole.
