Obituary for LILLIAN AMELIA WAKKURI (Priebe) Print Lillian Amelia Wakkuri, 81, of Kirkpatrick Ave. , Palmer, passed away at home early Friday morning, February 22, 2018 in the care of her loving family and Lake Superior Hospice. Amelia was born August 23, 1937 in Marquette to Alvin and Lillian (Rosin) Priebe and graduated from Graveraet High School, Class of 1954.

Following graduation, she earned her nursing degree from St. Luke’s School of Nursing before beginning her career at Morgan Heights Sanatorium. Amelia also worked as the Director of Nursing for Norlite Nursing Center and as a nurse at Marquette General Hospital, Family Care in the Medical Center and UP Home Health. Mrs. Wakkuri was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Palmer, and was a longtime auxiliary member of the Richmond Township Fire Department.

In their free time, she and her husband enjoyed camping, watching NASCAR races and cheering for the Green Bay Packers. Surviving are her daughter, Cheryl Wakkuri of Palmer; her son, Jon Wakkuri of Raleigh, NC; three sisters: Patricia (Milton) Johns of Marquette, Linda (Ron) Niemi of National Mine and Paulette Parent of Skandia; her brother, Walter Priebe of Skandia; sister-in-law, Alice Wakkuri; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special friend and caregiver, Joyce Swanson. Amelia was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 43 years, Lameo ‘Flinko’ Wakkuri, in 1999; two sisters: Charlotte Priebe and Eunice Miller; two brothers: Jon and David Priebe; two brothers-in-law: Allan Wakkuri and Leon ‘Butch’ Parent; and a nephew, Greg Mager.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-6:00 pm on Wednesday, February 27th at Koskey Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am on Thursday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with Rev. Larry Van Damme officiating.

A luncheon will be held in the church hall following Mass. Burial will be in the Negaunee Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may directed in Mrs. Wakkuri’s memory to UPAWS, 815 S. State Highway M553, Gwinn, MI 49841.
