Obituary for Lillian J. Hackney Mrs. Lillian Hackney, age 94, of Muskegon passed away Saturday, September 1, 2018 at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital. She was born November 27, 1923 in Fruitport to Peter and Angie (Poort) Buikema and was a life resident of the area. On January 25, 1941, she married Milton Hackney in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on August 19, 1996.
Lillian was a great wife and mother. She was an exceptional cook and cared deeply for her family. Lillian was a member of Broadway Baptist Church where she volunteered for funeral luncheons and served as the treasurer for the missions for many years.
She worked 5 years as a bus driver for Muskegon Heights Schools retired in 1996 as a Food Service Worker after 10 years with Orchard View Middle School. She is survived by seven children, Larry (Debbie) Hackney, Richard (Linda) Hackney, Dennis Hackney, Steven (Binnie) Hackney, Brian Hackney, Nancy (Terry) Hellman, Patricia (Michael) French; 53 grandchildren; 81 great-grandchildren; and 59 great great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Hackney, her son, Chuck Hackney; her parents; two brothers, Henry and Manna Buikema; and three sisters, Maude Matthews, Jennie Brink and Anna May Hammond.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Broadway Baptist Church (2892 Oak Lane) with Pastor Brian R. Jackson and Rev. Donald Letson co-officiating. VISITATION will be held 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey Street, (231) 798-1100 and one our prior to the service, 10-11 AM Thursday at the church.
