Obituary for Lilly May Madison (Whitaker) Print Lilly May Madison, 82, of Rensselaer, passed away at her home on Monday, February 11, 2019. She was born in Newland, Indiana on August 14, 1936, the daughter of Lebo Whitaker and Mollie (Salyers) Whitaker. She attended Newland schools and married Delbert Madison, Sr. in 1952.

May was a homemaker and loved to entertain. She was a great cook and enjoyed feeding everyone. You never left her house hungry.

She was “everyone’s mom”. She had a heart of gold and loved unconditionally. She enjoyed quilting and made quilts for all of her children and grandchildren.

Her grandkids consider them “hugs from grandma”. May’s family truly was her life. She is survived by five children: Phyllis (Larry) Wilson, Delbert Madison, Jr., Christine (Rodger) Kelley, Patricia (Nick) Mattocks and Cassie Dowdy; one brother, Jack Whitaker; eight grandchildren: Robbert Madison, Amber (Aaron) Parrish, Travis (Christina) Mattocks, Jeremy Kelley, Trevor Kelley, Kaylee Dowdy, Miranda Dowdy, and Nathan Davis; and eleven great-grandchildren.

May was preceded in death by her parents, Lebo and Mollie Whitaker; husband Delbert Madison, Sr.; infant son Tony; one granddaughter, Devon Madison; four brothers; and two sisters. Visitation will be Friday, February 15, 2019 from 3-7 p.m. at The Bridge Assembly of God Church, 615 W. Clark St., Rensselaer. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10 a.m. at The Bridge Assembly of God Church with Pastor Mark Callaway officiating.

Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Food Pantry or to the family. Steinke Funeral Home of Rensselaer is handling the arrangements.
