Linda Darlene Sledge, 69, of Newport, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Carolina East Medical Center. Her funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Reece’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. James “Winkie” Chadwick officiating.

Interment will follow at Chadwick Family Cemetery. Darlene loved her family, loved Jesus, loved flowers, and feeding the birds in her yard. She never met a stranger and always saw the good in everyone she met.

She had a kind spirit and a great sense of humor. She was loved by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, George Kevin Sledge of the home; sisters, Patricia Elise Salter and husband Warren Emory Salter of Havelock and Brenda Grace Adcock of Washington State; and eight nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Steven Salter; parents, James Walter Franklin VanBeber and Ernistine Barbara VanBeber; sister, Nancy Jean Forbes; and brother, David Wayne VanBeber. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm Friday, January 11, 2019 at Reece’s Chapel Missionary Baptist Church. Flowers are welcome.
