Hamilton – Lionel F Pooler passed away surrounded by his loving family on December 22, 2018 at Hunt Nursing Rehabilitation Center in Danvers. Lionel was born on November 1, 1933 to the late Paul and Genevieve Pooler. A Hamilton resident for almost 80 years, Lionel was a 1953 graduate of Hamilton High school.

Following the Army, Lionel raised a family in Hamilton while he worked at Varian in Beverly. He enjoyed a long career at Varian which culminated in him running the chemical lab before he retired in 1995. Following his retirement, Lionel was able to spend a lot of time pursing his passion of woodworking.

He was known as an expert carpenter and handyman and even had his own workshop in the basement of his home. During his retirement, Lionel also enjoyed taking long walks and bike rides around Hamilton, Wenham, and Beverly. He especially loved to spend time with his grandson, Michael.

An avid reader and history buff, Lionel was always able to tell interesting stories about world and local history. He also had great interest and knowledge about antique cars. Lionel’s family wish to thank the staff of Hunt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for taking such good care of him over the past 4 1/2 years.

They have all been an extended family to dad and our family. He is survived by his daughter, Cathy and her husband, Ted of Beverly, daughter, Laura of Danvers, and grandson, Michael of Beverly and by several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews who knew him as “Uncle Mike”. In addition to his parents, Lionel was predeceased by his brother, Paul, and his sisters, Genevieve, Rita, Mildred and Alice.

His funeral service will be held graveside, at the Hamilton Cemetery (Rte. 1A), Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 9:00 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. There will be a celebration of Lionel F. Pooler’s life for his family and friends at a future date.
