Obituary for Lloyd Cawthon Lloyd Cawthon, 84, husband of Jeanette Cawthon, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at Palmetto Health Tuomey following an extended illness. Born October 31, 1934 in De Funiak Springs, FL, he was a son of the late Lloyd Cawthon, Sr. and the late Icy Garrett Cawthon. He proudly served in the military, two years in the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force.

His career included two tours in Germany and the Philippines as well as tours in Okinawa, Korea, Vietnam, and several statewide assignments including Shaw AFB. He was a Korean and Vietnam War veteran. He received several awards and decorations including the Vietnam Bronze Star.

Lloyd also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 20 years. He was of the Baptist faith and attended the Lighthouse Baptist Church before his illness. Survivors include his wife of 47 years; two step-sons, Randy Dollard of Hattiesburg, MS and Dwayne Dollard of Sumter; grandchildren, Ashley Hustad, Kristel Robertson, Scottie Anderson, and Marley Anderson; three great-grandchildren, Emery and Eli Hustad, and Ashton Vipperman; two special nieces, Patsy Morris of Sumter and Charleen Petree of Knoxville, TN; three brothers and one sister all of De Funiak Springs, FL; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother and one sister. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 A.M. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel. Burial with full military honors will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 to 11:30 A.M. Saturday at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Rd. , Suite 100, Silver Springs, MD 20910 or to a charity of one’s choice.

The family wishes to express deep appreciation to Dr. Alton Jordan and Palmetto Health Hospice for their care and support. The family would also like to thank the Covenant Place Assisted Living staff for the care they gave Lloyd for the last three years during his illness. Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and Crematorium of Sumter is in charge of the arrangements.
