Lloyd Allen, 85, died peacefully Thursday August 23, 2018 in his daughter’s home in Cottage Grove, Oregon surrounded by family. Lloyd was born on September 13, 1932 in Marietta, Oklahoma to Lloyd Allen and Nell (Piper) Allen. Lloyd was raised by his mother and his step father, Golden Allen, because his father passed away when he was 3 1⁄2.

Lloyd attended Bryant Elementary and Dos Palos High School. He joined the Air Force shortly before graduation in 1952. After a short time, he was given a medical discharge and he married Ida Foster in 1958.

They later divorced, and he then married Diana Dompier in 1970 and they renewed their vows in 1987. They were together until she passed away in 1989. Lloyd worked most of his career as a lily bulb crew supervisor and a diesel mechanic for Dahlstrom and Watt Bulb Farms in Smith River, California.

He retired in 1994 and moved back to his hometown. He couldn’t just sit at home, so he got a job at Koda Farms in Dos Palos as a night watchman and worked there until he fully retired 2 years ago at the age of 83! Lloyd’s interests included going to casinos, fishing of all kinds especially in his boat and gardening.

He had a green thumb and could grow beautiful flowers and huge vegetable gardens that he would share with his family and friends. Lloyd also enjoyed traveling and took trips to Mexico, Louisiana, Alaska, Jamaica and more. Lloyd’s daughter Shari and her children were honored to have Lloyd live with them during his last few months.

He loved going fishing with Wyatt, on mountain drives to find deer with Will, sitting and talking with Brianna and he cherished his blanket that Kate made him and all the treats she would bring him. He also enjoyed when his son Patrick would bring his kids down to visit. Lloyd always tried to make you smile and he would never turn down a strawberry milkshake.

Lloyd is survived by his daughter Shari Allen of Cottage Grove, OR; his son Patrick Allen of Albany, OR; his son Christopher Allen; his step daughter Georgetta McDaniel of Raymond, CA; his stepdaughter Wilma (Harry) Alves of Dos Palos, CA; his stepdaughter Trisha (Darol) Miller; his stepson Tom (Wendy) Allen of Conway, AR; his grandchildren Kevin McDaniel, Keith McDaniel, Jenny Alves, Kayley Allen, Heather Hunter, Brianna Allen, William Vann, Kaitlyn Vann, Wyatt Vann, Jessica Castillo-Allen and PJ Allen; his sisters Charlene Bryant of Dos Palos, CA and Dolores Hays of Riverbank, CA and numerous other family and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his wife Diana and his brothers Sherman Allen, Herman Allen and Odis Allen. Arrangements are in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Chapel, Cottage Grove Oregon.

A Celebration of life will be held in Big Flat, California in the Spring. Please access and sign the online guestbook at smithlundmills.com.
