Lois Ann Hesser, 88, of Spartanburg, SC, died Friday, February 1, 2019 at her home. Born January 9, 1931 in Hudson Falls, NY, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Edwin Barker and Madeline Selfridge Barker. She was the wife of John Robert Rungo.

Miss Lois was a retired professor at Nova Southeastern University. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran church, The Order of the Eastern Star and Amarath. Professor Hesser was a Commander in The Coast Guard Auxillary, when she retired, Admiral Allen flew in to Group Charleston from Group Miami to present her retirement papers, and honored her by turning the Group out to witness her service.

Her off Broadway Singing starring roles included Maime, Dulcinda, and Ado Annie. She was the Soprano Section Leader for the Florida Philharmonic and Master Chorale. Survivors include her husband, John Rungo of the home; and beloved adopted daughter, Debra Valbuena of Sanford, FL.

Visitation will be at 5:00 – 7:00 PM Monday, February 4, 2019 at Floyd’s Greenlawn Chapel, 2075 East Main Street, Spartanburg, SC 29307. Funeral service will be at 12:00 Noon Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 415 South Pine Street, Spartanburg, SC 29302, conducted by The Rev. Mike Shackelford.
