OBITUARY Louis M. Kemp June 6, 1927 – January 13, 2019 Louis M. Kemp, 91, peacefully passed away Sunday, January 13, 2019 at St. Mary’s Village, Blue Springs, MO. Louis was born June 6, 1927 to Louie and Marcelete Kemp. Louis was a WWII veteran serving in the US Navy.

Upon returning from the war, he married his sweetheart Betty and went to school under the GI Bill to become a licensed mortician. Louis and Betty lived in Independence, Mo most of their lives, moving to Cole Camp, Mo in the late 1960’s. In Cole Camp, Louis farmed, owned his own excavation company, built their home and owned a café and craft store along with Betty.

After moving back to Independence in the 1990’s, Louis and Betty also enjoyed many winters spent in Texas. Louis had a varied career history where he was a machinist, owned and operated his own laundromat and worked for 20 years with KC Terminal Railway Co He was a talented woodworker which complimented Betty’s artistic abilities.

Louis was a wise and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Louis was preceded in death by his wife of 72 years, Betty M. Kemp.

He is survived by sons, Garry Kemp (Sue) and Kenneth Kemp (Shirley) and daughter, Susan Helton and by many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank St. Mary’s Village and Asana Hospice for their care of Louis.
